Nothing to Say
Monday, June 3, 2024 by Stephanie Barrett | Uncategorized
Actually, I totally know why I've never started a blog. I have great intentions. Then, I sit down at the computer, and my mind goes blank. I literally have nothing to say. Why is it that when we're in the shower, we could write a dissertation, but when we sit down to put pen to paper........ NOTHING!?
So, on a whim, late last night, I decided to eliminate that variable. I was going to write. It was going to be whatever came to mind. Some of it may be enjoyable to read, and some of it will definitely get some eye rolls. But, I decided to start........ because starting is the most important part.
I made another decision. I decided that when I sat at the computer to write my daily blog, I absolutely had to actually write it. I had to write SOMETHING. I had to put my thoughts on paper. I eliminated trying. You know, they say that the drunk driver never gets injured because he doesn't tense up at the time of the accident. I think this could be true of a lot of life. Spend less time thinking, analyzing, tensing..... and more time just doing.
Be free.
Flow.
And, as it turns out, I had something to say after all.

A Blog about Blogging
Sunday, June 2, 2024 by Stephanie Barrett | Uncategorized
So, here I am writing a blog entry. It's actually pretty funny that I've never taken up blogging. I love to write, and I've written countless long Facebook posts. I want to take this space to share little things that I learn or that inspire me on a day-to-day basis. I want to share things that I think have made me better at what I do and my family better at what they do.
One thing I've learned is that the first step in accomplishing anything is to start. Sometimes you have to be bad before you can be good, but beginning is the most important part. Time and effort will usually produce more results than talent, and repetition is key to just about anything.
Yesterday, I started a new little student on piano. She's 5 and adorable. At the end of her first lesson, I told her that she needs to practice, practice, practice. Then, I told her something that blew her mind. I said, "You need to practice on the days you want to and on the days you don't." Her eyes got really wide, and she said, "Even on the days I don't!?" Yes, even on the days you don't. Those days are especially important because those are the days you grow.
And so, I will start blogging. I will blog on the days I want to and on the days I don't........ because those are the days that I will grow.
I hope you will stick around for the stories, and I hope you will find some enjoyment, and maybe even some inspiration, in them.
Till the next one,
Stephanie
